Musical Influences: Music from the Renaissance and Baroque period is a field of ongoing study for me, and gives me my technical base for how I play and approach music. Love it. All celtic music, with a strong love for Welsh music (that's my heritage). Through teaching all types of celtic dance and getting to know the music of each country, I have come to appreciate the similarities and differences between them. Also love it. Ethnomusicology fascinates me; I love folk music from other countries and find it interesting how it comes about. Less of an influence and more of an interest thing: hard rock and punk. You get to lose yourself in a wave of awesome sound.

Hobbies: Other current musical groups : Troubadours du Bois (renaissance [recorder, harpsichord]) and Peat Fire Flame (Scottish [whistle, accordion]), SCA - medieval re-creation group - teaching medieval/renaissance period music and dance.

Awards in music, hobbies, work: Numerous dance awards from across western Canada from directing a Celtic dance school (Saskatoon Celtic Dance Assoc.) for 18 years.

Degrees: Bachelor of Music (performance) with a major in harpsichord (baroque keyboard instrument - all the better to play Bach properly on!), Anna and I convocated from the music department in the same year!  (98)

Real Job: Divide my time between teaching a few music students and a few shifts a month at the Royal Bank

Other Stuff: Other groups that I have played in that have influenced me greatly : Tipperary Creek, and Keltos. John King from Tipperary knew me as a dancer and had hired me to choreograph to their groups' music, he eventually took me on as a temporary tin whistle player, and made me permanent. We were a 5 piece Irish pub band and toured the province many times. Keltos was formed as Tipperary was fading with a group of my dancers who also played, and we were a strictly instrumental Celtic band. Musical arrangements for an instrumental band are different than for one with singers, which was a change, and we played for 8 years before putting out our CD, 'Have I told you lately..."
